Divine Mercy General Hospital

The general lack of health facilities in Uganda as inspired the Father Bash Foundation to give birth to the Divine Mercy Hospital in Mbarara. This health facility was founded to handle the ever-increasing health issues in the Mbarara region and further on to Isingiro, Bushenyi, Kasese, Kabale, Ntugamo and Lyatonde areas. The high population in the Mbarara hospital left many patients going without treatment. The country has very few doctors, with the average doctor-to-patient ratio standing at a staggering 1 : 24,725 and nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 11,000. The world health organization (WHO) recommends 1 : 1000 patients, which in Uganda has a long way to witness. Though it is not what we would consider in the United States as an 'adequate' medical hospital, it is the best one in the country of Uganda.

The Divine Mercy Hospital has been in operation since 2008, and was able to be constructed with the help of a very generous American Friends Benefactor. The vision of the Hospital is to be the preferred health service provider, improving health and well being of the people and the surrounding communities.

At current the Hospital provides general medical consultations, maternal & newborn healthcare, laboratory needs, radiology issues, surgical needs, inpatient services, and is able to access different specialists when required.

The Divine Mercy Hospital still needs your help:
  • The Divine hospital however still has to upgrade its health structures in order to keep in line with the growing population seeking medical attention, it has of recent introduced the only ultrasound system in Mbarara to take care of maternal health.
  • The Divine Mercy Hospital is a long way from perfect, with it's needs growing every day. The population continues to grow, which means that the Hospital will continue to need more supplies, upgrades, services, and care.
  • Though it has a pharmacy, it is not well stocked with medicine and supplies
  • A dental section is needed, with the proper supplies and tools
